Best Semrush alternatives for small sites

Semrush's SEO plan is $139 a month, and the content workflow is a separate $60 subscription on top. Before you switch, open your account and see which reports you used last month, because the seven tools below replace different parts and only some of them replace the database. SitePerfector is the last one because we build it.

Prices and features checked 3 Sep 2026 on each vendor's own pages.

1. Mangools

Basic $37.70/mo billed annually, Premium $52.70, Agency $97.70. Free account with no card. Full refund within 48 hours of payment.

Best for

Mangools is the friendliest keyword tool here, and the one most small sites end up on. Trustpilot shows 4.4 across 165 reviews on 3 September 2026, 90 percent of them five-star. AI Search Watcher is bundled into every plan at 500 monitored prompts across eight models, and API and MCP access start at $37.70.

Where it stops

Basic tracks 200 keywords on weekly updates, caps keyword research at 100 requests a day and has no extra seats. The backlink index is far smaller than Semrush's. It shows what people search for and how contested it looks, and you decide which of those to write and in what order.

2. Keysearch

Starter $24/mo, Pro $48/mo, roughly $20 and $40 on annual. Keysearch has no public pricing page; those figures come from their homepage FAQ and a third-party pricing page. Terms state a 30-day refund window.

Best for

Keysearch is the cheapest tool here at $24 a month, and it has held that price for a decade. Etsy, eBay, Amazon, Pinterest and YouTube keyword research come in the same subscription. Foresight takes a URL and scopes opportunities to that site rather than listing keywords in the abstract.

Where it stops

Keysearch publishes no pricing page and no per-plan limits, so you find out what you get after you sign up. Trustpilot shows 3.5 across 28 reviews on 3 September 2026, which is a small sample and worth reading before you buy.

3. Ubersuggest

Individual $29/mo, Business $49, Enterprise $99. Seven-day trial on monthly plans. Their refund policy states subscriptions are non-refundable once processed. A lifetime option is promoted behind a countdown timer.

Best for

Ubersuggest is the cheapest tool here that covers everything at once. $29 buys keyword research, rank tracking, a site crawler, and backlink and competitor data, with a step-by-step SEO course included at every tier. Trustpilot shows 4.2 across 570 reviews on 3 September 2026, the best public rating in this group.

Where it stops

Individual is one project, 125 tracked keywords per project and 10 AI prompts a month, with extras at $5 a month each. Their own documentation says a difficulty score is a guide and tells you to open the results page and judge for yourself. Subscriptions are not refundable once processed.

4. SE Ranking

Core $129/mo, $103.20/mo billed annually. Growth $279. Agency Pack +$69/mo and AI Search +$89/mo are add-ons. 14-day trial, fully functional, no credit card.

Best for

SE Ranking is the closest feature-for-feature swap for Semrush. Rank tracking is what they started with and it is the best here: daily, multi-location, multi-device. The 14-day trial is fully functional and needs no card, and the refund terms include a review if the service was not delivered as promised.

Where it stops

At $129 a month it is not the cheap option, and the agency features are a $69/mo add-on billed annually. AI search tracking is a further $89/mo. If you run one site, most of what you pay for sits unused.

5. Ahrefs

Starter $29/mo capped at 200 credits, Lite $129, Standard $249, Advanced $449. Content Kit is a separate add-on from $99/mo. No free trial; there is a permanently free tier for sites you verify.

Best for

Ahrefs is the answer if the reason you paid Semrush was link data. It has the best backlink index in the category, built from its own crawler rather than a licensed feed. They publish their research with the methodology attached, and the company has been bootstrapped for fifteen years.

Where it stops

There is no trial of the paid plans, and the $29 Starter plan cannot buy extra credits at any price. The content tooling is an add-on from $99/mo on top of a $129 plan. It is a specialist's tool and it is priced like one.

6. Moz

Starter $49/mo, Standard $99, Medium $179, Large $299. 20 percent off annual. Extra seats $49/mo each, AI prompts $50 per 100. Their help pages state that Moz does not offer refunds of any kind.

Best for

Moz is the one to buy if you want to learn SEO while you work. The Beginner's Guide and the SEO Learning Center are free and still the best education in this market, and Domain Authority is the shared language of the industry because Moz invented the idea. Moz Local is a separate working product if you manage listings across locations.

Where it stops

Standard at $99 is the first plan with the full feature set, and it caps you at two AI content briefs a month; ten of them costs $179. Their own help pages say Moz does not provide refunds at any time.

7. SitePerfector

$7 for the first 14 days, then $39/mo on Basic. Pro $99, Agency $179. Founder pricing, locked for life for the first 50 members.

Best for

SitePerfector is for the reader who already has the data and still does not know what to publish. We map your market into themes, topics and pages from live search results, lay your existing site over it, and name the sites you would be beating on each topic. Each market map reads roughly 40,000 ranked positions and vets up to 1,500 keyword ideas, of which around a hundred earn a place.

Where it stops

SitePerfector is not a database. There is no backlink data, no PPC data, no keyword index you can query on its own, no AI-visibility tracking, no bulk generation and nothing that publishes on a schedule. If you pay Semrush for link building or client PPC reporting, none of that is here.

How to choose

  • If your job is link analysis, pick Ahrefs and pay for it.
  • If your job is keyword research you will actually open, pick Mangools, or Keysearch if $24 a month is the ceiling.
  • If your job is one cheap tool that covers a bit of everything, pick Ubersuggest.
  • If your job is one login for research, tracking, audit and client reporting, pick SE Ranking.
  • If your job is learning SEO while you do it, pick Moz and read the free guide before you buy anything.
  • If your job is deciding what to publish next, pick SitePerfector.

There is one number worth knowing before you buy any of them. Every difficulty score in this group is derived from backlinks, by the vendors' own documentation, and on the long tail the data runs out. We ran 400 long-tail keywords through a vendor difficulty API and 8 came back with a value. In Mangools or Ubersuggest, look up harbor freight air compressor, 49,500 searches a month, and read the difficulty column. It came back as zero for us.

SitePerfector is not the pick if what you need is the database, so keep Semrush or Ahrefs for backlinks and PPC and use us for the decision about what to publish next.

Questions

Can any of these replace Semrush completely?

SE Ranking comes closest on features, and Ahrefs beats it on link data. Nothing here matches Semrush's PPC and advertising research. Open your Semrush account, look at which reports you used in the last month, and buy for those.

Which is the cheapest?

Keysearch at $24/mo, then Ubersuggest at $29 and Mangools at $37.70 billed annually. Ubersuggest is the cheapest that includes a site crawler and backlink data as well as keyword research.

Is SitePerfector a Semrush alternative?

Not as a database, no. We have no backlink index, no PPC data and no keyword index you can query on its own. We replace the part of Semrush you were using to decide what to write. See the full comparison.
