Best SEO tools for people who are not SEOs
Most SEO tools are built for someone whose whole job is SEO, so they hand you numbers and expect you to know what to do with them. The six entries below are sorted by how much you have to know before the tool is any use, starting with what is free. SitePerfector appears twice, as our free tools and as the paid product, because we build both, and both get the same two lines as everything else.
Prices and features checked 3 Sep 2026 on each vendor's own pages.
1. ChatGPT
Free. Go $8/mo, Plus $20/mo, Pro $100/mo.Best for
ChatGPT is best at thinking a subject through and drafting. It will help you work out what your business sells, turn a messy voice note into an outline, argue the other side of your angle, and write the first version. Web search has been on the free tier since February 2025, so it can read live pages, and Google's own guidance says a page is judged on quality however it was produced.
Where it stops
It reads a handful of links for a query. It cannot see search volume, it cannot see your site, and it cannot tell you who holds a whole topic across dozens of related queries. Asked for search volumes it returns numbers it did not measure, which Search Engine Land has written up.
2. SitePerfector free tools
Free. A free account, no credit card.Best for
Each of the three tools answers one question, with no vocabulary to learn first. What Ranks Here takes a keyword and shows what kind of page Google rewards for it. The Commodity Content Scanner scores a draft against the signals that mark it as the same answer everyone else published, and the AI-Tell Detector highlights the phrasing that reads as machine-written.
Where it stops
They work one query or one page at a time. They do not map your market, look across your whole site, or put anything in an order. They will not tell you what to write next.
3. Mangools
Basic $37.70/mo billed annually, Premium $52.70, Agency $97.70. Free account with no card. Full refund within 48 hours of payment.Best for
Mangools is the friendliest keyword tool on the market and the fastest to get productive in if you have never used one. Trustpilot shows 4.4 across 165 reviews on 3 September 2026, 90 percent of them five-star, and the 48-hour full refund is the most forgiving policy in this group. AI Search Watcher is bundled into every plan.
Where it stops
It answers what people search for and roughly how contested it looks. It will not tell you which of those you should write, in what order, or whether your site can hold the topic. Basic tracks 200 keywords on weekly updates and has no extra seats.
4. Ubersuggest
Individual $29/mo, Business $49, Enterprise $99. Seven-day trial on monthly plans. Their refund policy states subscriptions are non-refundable once processed, lifetime plans included.Best for
Ubersuggest is a reasonable first paid tool because it teaches you as you go. $29 covers keyword research, rank tracking, a site crawl, and backlink and competitor data, and a step-by-step SEO course with templates is included at every tier. Trustpilot shows 4.2 across 570 reviews on 3 September 2026, the best public rating here.
Where it stops
Individual is one project, 125 tracked keywords and 10 AI prompts a month, with extras at $5 a month each. Their own documentation says a difficulty number is only a guide and tells you to open the results page and judge for yourself, which is the judgement a beginner does not have yet.
5. Keysearch
Starter $24/mo, Pro $48/mo, roughly $20 and $40 on annual. Keysearch publishes no pricing page; those figures come from their homepage FAQ and a third-party pricing page. Terms state a 30-day refund window.Best for
Keysearch is the cheapest real tool here at $24 a month, and it has held that price for a decade. Etsy, eBay, Amazon, Pinterest and YouTube keyword research come in the same subscription. Foresight takes a URL and scopes opportunities to that site, which is a real attempt at making the choice for you.
Where it stops
There is no public pricing page and no published plan limits, so you find out what you are getting after you sign up. Trustpilot shows 3.5 across 28 reviews on 3 September 2026, which is a small sample and worth reading before you change plans.
6. SitePerfector
$7 for the first 14 days, then $39/mo on Basic. Pro $99, Agency $179. Founder pricing, locked for life for the first 50 members.Best for
SitePerfector is built so you do not need the vocabulary. Your market comes back as a tree of themes, topics and pages read from live search results, your existing pages are laid over it from a crawl, and the next thing to build sits at the top of a list with the reason attached and the sites you would be beating named. Then you get a blueprint for that page, and an AI draft you edit or a PDF brief for a writer.
Where it stops
It is $39 a month after the first 14 days, which is a lot if you publish four times a year. There is no live content score to write against, no backlink or PPC data, no AI-visibility tracking, no bulk generation and nothing that publishes on a schedule. We do not write the pages for you on any plan.
How to choose
- If your job is thinking a subject through and drafting, use ChatGPT and stop there for now.
- If your job is checking one keyword or one draft before you publish, use our free tools.
- If your job is finding out what people search for, pick Mangools for the friendliest interface, or Keysearch if $24 a month is the ceiling.
- If your job is one cheap tool that does a bit of everything and teaches you while you use it, pick Ubersuggest.
- If your job is deciding which topics and pages are worth your hours, pick SitePerfector.
Mangools, Ubersuggest and Keysearch tell you what people search for, and none of them tell you which of it is worth writing or in what order. SitePerfector reads the live results per topic, says whether your site can win it, and names the sites you would be beating, so you can open that results page and check the answer yourself.
SitePerfector is not the pick if you publish a few times a year and a good prompt is enough, if what you need is a keyword database or backlink data, or if you would rather someone else did the work, which we sell separately at done for you.
Questions
Do I have to learn SEO to use any of these?
For the keyword tools, a little. They give you numbers and leave the judgement to you, and Ubersuggest's own documentation says as much. ChatGPT and our free tools need nothing, and SitePerfector returns a decision in plain language rather than a metric you have to interpret.
Is ChatGPT enough on its own?
For some people, yes. If you publish a few times a year and mostly need help thinking and drafting, a good prompt is enough and you should save the money. It stops being enough when you need to know which topics are worth the hours and who you would be competing with.
What do the free SitePerfector tools cost?
Nothing. What Ranks Here, the Commodity Content Scanner and the AI-Tell Detector need a free account and no credit card. They are separate from the paid product and there is no time limit on them.
